For ABG Analysis, the following works, most of the time...:

 

ROME ARROWS ( "Respiratory Opposite, Metabolic Equal")

 

Respiratory  =  Opposite:

· pH is high (arrow is up) , PCO2 is low (arrow is down)-- ( Respiratory Alkalosis).

· pH is low (arrow is down), PCO2 is high  (arrow is up)-- ( Respiratory Acidosis).

 

Metabolic  =  Equal:

· pH is high (Arrow is up), HCO3 is high (Arrow is up)-- ( Metabolic Alkalosis).

· pH is low (Arrow is down), HCO3 is low (Arrow is down)-- ( Metabolic Acidosis).
